I want to recommend a book I bought while in Germany this summer by

Meine Oma lebt in Afrika
Annelies Schwarz
Beltz & Gelberg (www.beltz.de)
ISBN 3-407-78284-5.

It is about a boy (Eric) who lives in Bremen. His mother is German and his father is
from Ghana. His best friend is Florian, a blond boy and they spend a lot of time
playing at Flo's grandmother's house.
Eric and his parents plan to go to Ghana to visit his paternal grandmother. At the
last minute his mother cannot go, so Flo goes with them. They have a wonderful
time in Ghana and learn a lot.
I enjoyed the book a lot and think it can be read at a level 3 or higher. It presents
the ethnic diversity in Germany and also teaches that there are Afro-Germans, who
are different from Afro-Americans. I think Afro-American students would find the
story interesting could connect better to learning German.
